The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but that is not its most appealing feature.

What an opportune time for foldable phones. Not only do we have a more robust choices across numerous smartphone manufacturers, but we’re also seeing bolder designs that boost the functionality of these devices Xiaomi Mix Fold 3.

You can now add the Xiamoi Mix Fold 3 to that list, which is yet another technical marvel with a durability rating of up to 500,000 folding cycles. This is a 2.5x improvement above the 200,000 folding cycles claimed by both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Google Pixel Fold.

Durability has always been a problem for foldable phones, especially given that their designs have much more moving parts than regular smartphones. Xiaomi’s promise that the Mix Fold 3 can withstand 500,000 folding cycles is ambitious, but it’s also worth noting given the Mix Fold 3’s price of 8,999 yuan. Although the price is lower than the competition, the new Xiaomi phone will only be available in China.

While its endurance claim is excellent, there is another aspect of the Mix Fold 3 that is much better.

The only folding quad-camera system

When compared to current flagship phones, choosing a foldable phone requires some sacrifices. The cameras, in particular, are often reduced in size, but that’s not the case with the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, which features a quadruple camera system co-engineered with Leica. When you compare it to some of the best phones on the market, it’s like a unicorn sighting in the foldables field.

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 appears to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor, putting it ahead of the Google Pixel Fold’s triple camera setup — which includes a telephoto camera with a 5x optical zoom capability. The Mix Fold 3, on the other hand, ups the ante by including not one, but two 10MP telephoto lenses cameras with 2.5x and 5x zooms. They are joined by a 50MP IMX800 main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide lens with a 125-degree field of view.

This provides a fantastic lot of utility for shooting distant things, especially since we found a significant difference in that area with our Galaxy Z Fold 5 vs. Pixel Fold comparison.

All fantastic, but unlikely to make a difference.

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is yet another example of how far foldable phones have advanced. While it has appealing qualities, this Xiaomi phone is unlikely to sell as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Pixel Fold in the United States because it is only available in China. You could import the Mix Fold 3, but you risk missing out on 5G capability on different bandwidths provided by your wireless provider.

Still, you have to give respect to Xiaomi for creating an ambitious foldable phone that is intended for work and content creation. In the future, we’ll see more competition in this sector from incoming foldables like the OnePlus Open. Apple is expected to introduce its iPhone 15 lineup next month, but it might also be another occasion for the corporation to tease a foldable iPhone.
